Planner

How to plan a balanced Tomodachi Life island.

A better island plan mixes friends, original characters, fandom picks, source notes, and personality variety before you start building Miis.

Start with categories, not names

It is tempting to fill every slot with the first characters that come to mind. A stronger plan starts with groups. Reserve space for real friends, original characters, game characters, anime characters, celebrity-inspired Miis, memes, and a few experimental picks. That gives your island variety before individual names take over the whole list.

The Tomodachi Share planner uses 70 slots because that is a practical planning size for the current site. You do not need to fill all of them at once. A useful first pass can be just 20 names with categories and source links.

Balance familiar faces and surprises

An island made only of one fandom can feel repetitive. A mix of familiar friends, original characters, and recognizable fictional characters gives interactions more contrast. Put high-priority characters first, then leave room for late discoveries from the Mii Gallery or QR sources you have not verified yet.

For popular searches like Sans Mii, Hatsune Miku Mii, anime Miis, or game character Miis, write down whether the entry is a real QR code, a screenshot reference, or a manual recreation idea. The label will save time later when you decide what to build first.

Record source notes early

Source notes are easy to skip and hard to reconstruct. Add the page URL, creator name, platform, and status as soon as you find a promising Mii. If you later discover that a code is blurry or not compatible with your setup, you still have the original context for manual recreation.

This is also a respect issue. If Tomodachi Share eventually hosts real community entries, each entry should keep source and credit visible. A planner habit that starts with source notes makes future sharing cleaner.

Use personality as a planning tool

Personality notes help prevent a flat cast. If every islander has the same energy, the relationships and scenes can blur together. Try mixing calm, confident, silly, shy, dramatic, and practical archetypes. You do not need perfect balance, but you should be able to glance at the planner and notice if one style is taking over.

Back up your plan

The planner stores data in your browser. That keeps private notes local, but it also means browser cleanup tools can remove them. Export a JSON backup when your plan starts to matter. The file is small and readable, and you can import it again if you switch browsers or reset storage.

FAQ

Do I need a full 70-islander plan before playing? No. Start with a smaller cast and leave empty slots for later discoveries.

Should I plan relationships first? Only for important pairs. Overplanning every relationship can make the island feel less surprising.

Where should QR notes go? Put the source URL and compatibility status in the source or notes fields before trying to scan or recreate the Mii.
